I would imagine they'll be one last resale end of May so it really isn't hopeless yet. |

I just wanted to say, I thought it was a very unfair system this time - I think probably the most unfair since this absurd situation started in 2004.
In 2004, it was extremely difficult to reach the ticket pages, but at least everyone had an equal chance as each page refresh was as likely (or unlikely) to work as the last. 2005, it has to be said, was excellent. With increased server capacity it was genuinely a first come, first served competition.
But this year has been a case of "who you know". SeeTickets appear to have skimped on the server capacity compared to 2005, and as a result it was virtually impossible to get to the ticket page, but once you did, you were able to keep going back and buying infinite tickets! It's hard to imagine how it could be any less fair.
I've been 'lucky' every festival year since '97 (although of course it didn't used to require luck!), so I'm not just bitter about not going. I genuinely think that for the amount of money SeeTickets make out of this, they could do a better job. It's not impossible to purchase or rent web servers to handle millions, even several millions of hits in a minute. And bothering to do this would make the whole situation much fairer for everyone. At the very least they could test their systems to eliminate bugs like the "going back gets you infinite tickets" one this year. I really feel for people who missed out - you've every right to feel cheated.

I really don't see the 'unfair' allegation comes from. You seem to suggest there was a conspiracy (this year has been a case of "who you know") when in reality it was just friends helping each other out just as they've done in the last few years of ticket sales.
Complaining about servers and the like is fine, but the bottom line is Seetickets are providing a service that Eavis is paying for and he's trying to obviously do that on a budget. Now Seetickets have their faults (as we all know) but this year they seemed to do an decent job without the huge server crashes of past years.
I understand you being bitter about not getting tickets but it's a pointless and quite empty rant. With 400,000 registrations and 137,000 tickets they'll be plenty of upset people. There was no conspiracy, it didn't involve any tricks, it was simple luck. Now there is a resale in three weeks that you can focus yourself in getting tickets then rather than wind yourself up in Conspiracy Theory and spurious accusations. |

Did you even read my post? I've got tickets!
Like most people, I got tickets because I happened to know one of the lucky people who got through to the site once. Anyone who got through once was then able to book as many tickets as they liked.
I never mentioned the word 'conspiracy', or alleged there was a conspiracy. It was obviously just incompetence on the part of SeeTicket's web programmers - a technical oversight.
My point was simply that Michael Eavis and would-be festival goers have a right to expect better from such a high-profile ticket sale. And that the flaw in the system I've described made the process far from fair.
That's hardly a rant, is it?

I did miss the fact you had tickets (you suggested you were not going though) but my criticism stands. Eavis is running a business but one which puts a huge chunk of it's costs into it's charities. They're paid a price and they give their services for that price. Now they've done a fairly decent job and yes, people couldn't get the screen to load. Fortunately there were a hell of a lot of people out there helping. Now I understand not everyone can organise themselves but shrill rants and accusations are pointless.
400,000 people trying to get tickets at the same time will always cause problems. Now I'm still dubious about aspects of the registration scheme but it worked yesterday and it's achieved Eavis' wish to have a festival free of touting.
That's the reality of how Glastonbury works. It's a commercial festival but one which tries to do things on the cheap to enable charities to get more money, that's the reality of it.
But would you prefer yesterday (where people tried desperately to help as many as possible) over the rampant touting that's been there since the fence went up? |

I don't really want to argue, I think we've both got our point across.
If it were up to me, I'd have the pre-registration, which was an excellent idea, combined with the increased server capacity of 2005. I would also remove this year's flaw in the system which allowed a relatively small number of people unlimited tickets at the expense of so many others. The effect was to unfairly discriminate against people who had less friends.
I'm not shrill, am I?

I didn't use the back button once the whole time. I went away, came back, and was still able to access the pages in question through the proper pages and the proper links. It wasn't so much that once you were through once you could go back any number of times, it looks more like the reason you got through once was the same reason you got through any other times.
I had initial problems accessing anything on Sunday morning, that included this forum, other forums, the official site, and the ticket site, all due I'm guessing to the huge amount of traffic all trying for the same thing. If there was any advantage for me it was probably living where I did, hundreds of miles away from the main populous of Glastonbury festival goers. So I only had to battle through the excessive internet traffic at the end point, whereas a lot of people would be hitting bottlenecks at almost every point.
It is unfortunate that not everyone could get tickets. I'm very happy I was able to get my ticket. And I'm very happy I was able to help a couple of other friends who were having no luck. I refuse to apologise for that.
There are limits to any technology. No matter how much capacity they have, there are always going to be problems with a ticket agent selling the number of tickets that there are for an event the size of Glastonbury festival. While also selling tickets for hundreds of other events. The only thing an increase in capacity would allow is the selling out of tickets to occur earlier. The square peg of 400,000 registrants just isn't going to fit into the round whole of 175,000, it doesn't matter how big the hammer is. Disappointment will happen, whether it's not getting through the round whole or destroying the whole lot.
Touting for tickets in the past was sickening, as was the sale of links on ebay for priority access to the sale page on Sunday. Anything Mr Eavis can do to reduce touting should be applauded.
