Doves have confirmed that they will playing this year's Glastonbury Festival and will headline the John Peel Stage.
In
an interview with BBC 6 Music, the Manchester band revealed that they
will join acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur on the
event's 2009 bill.
Guitarist Jez Williams and his drummer
brother Andy said that Doves are happy to be playing on the stage as
they performed there in their first appearance at the festival, when it
was the New Bands Tent.
Andy told the broadcaster: "We're really
pleased we're getting that. I think there might have been possibly the
chance of doing one of the other stages in the afternoon but we really
love that stage."
Jez added that the tent is more claustrophobic
and sweaty, which leads to it having a better atmosphere than is found
on the festival's other stages.
