The Verve and Kings of Leon will join Jay-Z as headliners of Glastonbury festival this summer.

It comes just days after Jay-Z was unveiled as the first rapper to headline the event.

Organisers have confirmed to Radio 1's Newsbeat that the bands will appear at Worthy Farm from 27-29 June.

Organiser Emily Eavis said: "We are thrilled that these acts are headlining. It really looks set to be an amazing year."

Kings of Leon will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday 27 June, with Jay-Z performing on Saturday 28 June and The Verve closing the festival on 29 June.

Hot Chip will top the bill on the Other Stage.

Eavis added: "The Verve are a great Glastonbury band and they are finally doing the headline slot we have been waiting for for years.

"Jay-Z is coming all the way over especially, and he will undoubtedly do an incredible show, we are so honoured to have one of the world's greatest hip-hop artists on the farm.

"Kings Of Leon are one of the most exciting live bands out there and they have come through the ranks at Glastonbury, from the new bands tent a few years back.

"We see them as part of the great heritage of Friday night headliners Coldplay (and) White Stripes. They're ready to make that leap as well."

Other acts confirmed to play include British Sea Power and music legends Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond.

Rumours that Jay-Z is to pull out of the festival and headline O2 in London instead are running amok at present. Can anyone confirm this ? and if so who is going to replace him? As long as it isn't Bobby Crush or Clayderman. Personally I'm praying for Led Zeppelin, oh and hello to all, I'm a seasoned glastogirl and sometimes fireperformer.

I must admit as a person who works at the festival for a local charity I do not get lots of spare time but the main stage has never ever been a draw for me. I have watched better acts and bands in the stages on the outskirts more fun and far less commercial and nice crowds.
