Hi - Ive been to Glasto twice b4 and have loved every minute of it...
Unfortantly the 14 hole doc Martins I usually wear have seen better
days and lst year at 'V' gave me such bad blisters I had to resort to
my converse.

SO! I need to purchase a new pair of boots and have a few questions
on alternative footwear to a new pair of DM's (they are v. expensive
- not sure I want to spend another £70)

Wellies... these always look like a nightmare to me... heels getting
stuck in the mud so the boot comes off... water running down the top
of the boot... socks dropping to your ankles... can some one prove
me wrong - as they are cheap to buy!

Walking boots... really expensive I know, but they must be
comfortable - right? (I am diabetic - I have to get this footwear thing
right!) most are ankle height so I was worried about the mud going
over the top and having to buy gaters...

Work boots... any good? Thinking of steel toe capped style...

Many thanks people.

Em. x

Walking boots. Get a really good pair and they'll see you right.

Yeah, don't end up like my mate Gregg, who was able to smuggle a can of lager down each wellie at T in the Park. He is a skinny guy though.

Hello.

If you can stretch to it, get a pair of Scarpa walking boots. I bought a pair 4 years ago and they're still good as new. Got me through the '05 flood, no trouble. They cost a shedload, but will outlast most others and prove better value in the long run.

We do a LOT of walking, so good footwear is something we've read up on. Scarpa are the best, bar-none. If not, get a pair of HI-Tec Magnums. Any footwear can be waterproofed with one of the Nik Wax products. Dr. Martens are, unfortunately, crap quality, these days. Just not the same as they used to be.

In my opinion, don't buy anything made by Berghaus. I once got let down by their stuff in the middle of nowhere; overpriced shopping gear.

I definitely wouldn't buy work boots; too cumbersome and can take ages to break in.

You can get waterproof trainers, as used by fell-runners; good grip and very light. Not too expensive, either.

My favourite, altogether for festivals, are army surplus boots. You can get a decent pair that will last years for around £40 / 50 tops. Buy something called "Wet-Pruf" to coat them in and you'll be as happy as anything.

Try this place;

Pretty good selection. I'd go for either the "Genuine Army High Performance Lowa Boots", "Black US Army Leather Jungle Boots" or the "German Army Para Boots". Make sure you don't forget to treat the leather with some form of proofing, just to be on the safe side. It takes five minutes and prevents hassle.

Whatever you do, take a can of "Daktarin" foot spray or powder. Yes; it's for athlete's foot, but it also keeps your tootsies nice and dry and comfy. Wouldn't go on a serious walk without it. Hope this helps.

You have no time to break walking boots in unless they are already very flexible, army surplus great idea but see if there is one local to you to try them on as they need to be comfortable from the off. I've dusted off my old CAT boots will nikwax them tomorrow.

DM's are cheap on Ebay if you can get quick delivery
