Now 2020's muted celebrations are out the way, thoughts turn fully to Glastonbury 2021, which will be the 50th anniversary of the first Glastonbury Fayre. As we've seen during the BBC's 50th anniversary coverage Emily Eavis is promising a 'double blow out' for 2021 so what does this mean?
Firstly let's deal with the big Covid-19 shaped elephant in the room. It is not going to magically vanish in 12 months, nor will be have a vaccine unless there's a medical miracle, so we have to deal with the fact there might not be a festival next year. Assuming it happens, there will have to be measures to ensure some level of protection. Other festival organisers are talking of not granting people access unless people have a negative Covid test in the 7 days prior to a festival. Masks will definately play their part. That understanably could create its own chaos so keep an eye on this aspect in the months to come.
There's also the subject of tickets. Those who got a ticket for 2020 will see that carried over, however we'd not went through the resale process and had things went normally we'd probably not seen a lot of tickets for sale. So how many tickets may be sold for 2021? Well, there's going to be cancellations and a lot more than expected due to the Covid situation, people losing jobs or simply not being able to get the time off. I expect a larger cancellation rate than usual basically.
Then there's rumours the capacity will be expanded as discussed in this link here.

A potential extra 7k tickets is available to the festival, but rumours are swirling they could try to get a one-off expansion. Take this with a pinch of salt but considering how much money the festival, and the area, has lost it wouldn't surprise me if we did see that. Regardless though tickets will be hard to get so if you're fit and able, I'd perhaps look now into working at the festival to get ahead of the surge.
As for when they go on sale I'd presume October as usual until further notice.
Lineup will be a mix of acts confirmed for this year and those already booked for 2021. Don't expect anything along those lines til the autumn at least when hopefully things become clearer.
Basically stay tuned as I don't expect anything official until late summer, early autumn. Til then enjoy the loads of Glastonbury material still on iPlayer and hopefully we'll all come through this to be in a field in Somerset next June.
